Commuters invited to meet their MP
pt4me2 is taking the Best for the West petition a step further and inviting commuters to visit local MPs to put forward their suggestions to improve public transport.
Cr Janet Rice, pt4me2 spokesperson and Maribyrnong City councillor, said that over 10,000 Melbournians had already signed online petitions calling for better public transport.
She said that MPs had received many hundreds of emails urging the government to provide better public transport.
Cr Rice said that commuters are very keen to send a clear message about public transport.
As petrol prices soar and greenhouse targets loom, more and better public transport will be essential.
We are organising small groups of commuters to visit their local MPs to discuss ways of improving public transport.
Cr Rice said it was a good time to talk to MPs about public transport because the State Government was preparing a new transport plan for release in November.
We need to make sure that public transport is a top priority for the government, she said.
Cr Rice said everyone who signs the pt4me2 petitions online will be invited to join in a visit to their local MP.
