The Metropolitan Transport Forum (MTF) is an advocacy group comprising members from Melbourne metropolitan local government, associate members representing transport companies, and participants from the State Government and environment groups.

The MTF endeavours to promote effective, efficient and equitable transport in metropolitan Melbourne by providing a forum for debate, research and policy development, and by disseminating information to improve transport choices.

Coming event:Are Melbourne's Growth Areas Sustainable? MTF member councils in the growth corridors have raised issues around transport shortfalls to service rapid population growth in a sustainable manner. The MTF has submitted to the Growth Corridor Plans and is hosting a forum on this topic as part of the Sustainable Living Festival on Wednesday 22nd February, Swanston Hall at Melbourne Town Hall, 4-6.30 pm. The first meeting for the year was held on Wednesday 1st February and a new executive elected for 2012. MTF is pleased to announce Cr Tom Melican, City of Banyule as Chair fo 2012.

Next MTF meeting, Wednesday March 7th, will feature David Keenan talking about grade separations, an emerging issue as more frequent train services require level crossings to be closed and consequent traffic congestion. Coming topics for the year include traffic noise, Choose How you Move and a presentation from Ian Dobbs on the new Public Transport Development Authority. We also hope to hear more about freight, parking and healthy active transport.
